In general, there are 4 numerous archery stances which are used in the sport. There are pros and cons for every variety of stance though you will have to familiarize yourself with the four to actually be in a position to determine which will greatest suit you.

The first stance is named the even stance. This particular stance follows a really intuitive and natural positioning. It can be effortlessly repeated therefore consistency will not be an problem. Consistency in delivering the stance would mean} that you will have a high precision for the shot that you will take.

Though the even stance is pretty quick to carry out, there are some disadvantages when you decide to use it. Largely, the even stance gives you with a reasonably smaller base support in your front and back. Because of this, your body is not firmly set and a big wind can really throw you out of balance. An additional point is that when you make a decision to use the even stance, it lowers the area for string clearance. This is specifically accurate for archers possessing broad chests.

The open stance is the next type of archery stance. Just like the prior, the open stance also proves to give the archer a harder time leaning away from the target. But on the other hand, this particular stance needs the upper body to twist towards the target. The open stance also can make use of the arm muscles instead of the back muscles for drawing the arrow and releasing.

The third archery stance is referred to as the closed stance. Using the closed archery stance, you get a relatively stable help base. It also provides the archer an outstanding shoulder and arm alignment with the selected target.

Nevertheless, there are also some drawbacks when you choose to use the closed stance. This sort of stance decreases the string clearance up to a point wherever it may in fact touch against your body. The specific stance creates the archer lean aside from the target which means that there is a risk of overdrawing the archery bow.

Among the 4 stances, the fourth and last referred to as the oblique stance gives the greatest string clearance to the point where the arrow is released. Utilizing the said stance, you can see the target very clearly obtaining your body in a position of total equilibrium. The only setback is that this previous stance is the most tough to sustain. Since of this, only expert archers use this distinct archery stance.

Begin practicing your archery stance by placing your feet exactly on the shooting line. You have to emphasize precision in marking your position considering that even experienced archers will attest that even the slightest of deviations will have an effect on sighting and aiming eventually throwing off your precision.

Most archers look at the open up and oblique stance as the better options out of the four archery stances. A bigger percentage of archers use only 1 of the two or they may well favor alternating both. On the other hand, it still is a case to case basis when it comes to person preference.

Archery has fascinated mankind thousands and thousands of years. Whether it was on the war field or the hunting ground, it was archery which made man victorious. Archers have been an indispensable part of Egyptian, Indian, Greek and Persian civilization. These archers were highly adorned and respected; in fact special training was provided to people who wanted to master the art of archery.

Bows and arrows are the main constituents of archery. Studies have shown that the bows were developed in either early Mesolithic age or late Paleolithic age. Pines were used for making arrows.

Bows are of different types such as Longbow, shortbow, flatbow, recurve bow, crossbow and compound bow. Longbow as the name suggests is very long; the length of the bow is equal to the height of the user and in some cases even exceeds the height of the user. The limb of the Flatbow is wider and the cross-section is rectangular in shape.

Shortbow is shorter in length; it is light weight and has a short range. It was basically used for hunting purpose. In crossbow the limbs are mounted in a horizontal manner and not in a vertical manner. The compound bow is designed in such as manner that the archer is at his ease while mounting the bow.

An arrow is made up of shaft; it has an arrowhead which is at the front portion of the arrow. These arrowheads which are made of metals or some other materials are used to target points. In order to properly shoot an arrow the archer has to maintain a proper stance. The posture of the body, the eye and the way the archer is holding the bow should be proper.

Sight shooting and instinctive shooting are the two methods adopted by an archer while shooting n arrow. In instinctive shooting the archer has to completely concentrate on the target while shooting the arrow. It requires a lot of practice. Whereas in case of sight shooting the archer can adjust the pins which are there on the bows to target an object, his is relatively easy. Previously instinctive shooting was the norm but at present sight shooting is more preferred.

As the civilization started advancing materialistically, people started thinking of developing some mechanism which was more lethal and more effective in comparison to bows and arrows. Development of firearms was a step in this direction; it made bows and arrows completely obsolete.

Bows and arrows which were extensively used in wars by the soldiers gave way to firearms. Those kingdoms which did not possess firearms started losing their stronghold and were defeated in the war filed. The firearms had many advantages over bows and arrows. They had long range, they were more lethal, using them did not require lots of training and no major skill was required to use this weapons.

Today archery has become a sporting activity; some even use it for recreational purposes. Although today archery has lost its sheen but we should not forget that it has played a pivotal role in shaping human civilization.

-

If you manged to find a local archery club to take archery lessons or a public archery range, you need to follow certain guidelines that will help you enjoy your hobby and let others have a good experience too.

One of the most important guidelines is to shoot no more than 6 arrows at the same time. It’s usually a good rule of thumb to shoot just 3 arrows since that’s number of arrows you shoot at a tournament. Besides, if you’re always shooting 6 arrows or more at once and if you’re a beginner, there’s a big possibility that people are going to be annoyed with you since they need to wait a lot of time for their turn. We sure don’t want that.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people at the local archery ranges fail to follow this rule. There’s especially one “wannabe” archer here, at my local archery range, that’s an expert in pissing people off by not following this rule. I mean, if you see that there are a bunch of people behind you waiting for their turn, at least be fair enough to reduce your firing salvo to 6 arrows not freaking 10 arrows! Please don’t be that guy/girl.

-
The other thing you need to take into account when attending public archery ranges is to keep a certain distance between you and the archer who’s shooting. Usually you need to wait about 10 feet behind the firing line. This is where the waiting line starts, unless you’re coaching the guy. In that case you want to be close.

A nice thing to do if you see a fellow archer looking for his arrow is to go and help him/her. I always look for my arrows if I miss the target since I’m not that rich to just loose my $30 arrow like that. My life motto goes something like this: “Give and you shall receive.” If you help a person out, I’m sure somebody will help you out when you need it.

If I haven’t gone through this awesome archery course, I probably wouldn’t know squat about archery range etiquette. I would probably be like that guy, that shoots too many arrows at once. This is the single best course about archery that I’ve managed to find on the internet. I highly recommend it!

These are ones of the most important archery lessons that you need to know. I think if you follow these guidelines you’re on your way on becoming the archery saint of your local range.

PS: Please no more than 6 arrows!

Looks like even in Europe local archery clubs are somewhat hard to find. To help the aspiring archers, I went on a mission to find a list of main archery associations for specific European countries.

After spending some time searching the internet, I found this website named Mediterranean and European Archery Union that has the list I was searching for.

You can access this list by simply visiting their site, which is located here European and Mediterranean Archery Union. When you’re at the website simply hover on the EMAU tab (look at the picture) and click the button Member Association.

After you click that button a new page will load up with the list of all member associations for specific countries. For a somewhat easier “user experience” click on the drop down menu (located above and right of the emails) and select the option that says all. This way you can see all the countries in one go…you don’t have to change the pages.

Look up for the archery association in your country and click on their name.If we let’s say click on the Austrian association (Österreichischer Bogensportverband) a new page loads up containing detailed information. You can see association’s name, city in which they are located and you also get their contact information like e-mail, telephone, fax number and their website (pic below). You can even see who’s the president of the association.

If you live in the city where the club/association is located, you’re lucky. If not I recommend you to call them and ask, if they know about any archery clubs located near your city. I’m sure they’ll be able to help you.

I also came across this detailed list of archery clubs for the UK. The names of archery clubs contain a hyperlink to their website, from which you can find out more about them. You can check out this list, by clicking this link.

If you still can’t find an archery club near you, I strongly recommend this killer archery course. Jam packed with very cool and informative archery lessons, it will guide you step by step in becoming an expert archer (like Legolas in Lord Of The Rings). Don’t waste your time by checking out all the free info…most of it is rubbish. I found this product and it was perfect for me. Works like gang busters!

Best of luck.

Welcome!

I guess you’re tired of searching the internet for the nearest archery club. I had the same problem.

After the 2008 Olympics in Bejing I became really fascinated with archery. I must say that the movie Lord Of The Rings helped a bit with this enthusiasm, because watching Legolas nail those evil orcs from afar looked very cool.

In hope of becoming like Legolas I went on the internet to search for a local archery club. I searched for a couple of hours but couldn’t find anything. Actually I did manage to find some free archery lessons online but to be honest, all of that was rubbish.

Failing with the internet I decided to go check out the local sporting goods store, hoping to find someone that knows a thing or two about archery. I saw the store had a few types of bows (low quality judging by the looks and by the price) and since I was clueless, I went to look for an employee, who could explain things to me in a bit more detail.

I found this guy named Greg who worked in that section of the store. After a few minutes of talking with him I realized that he didn’t have a clue about archery but that didn’t stop him, from trying to sell me not just the bow but every single immaginable piece of accessory for the bow. I had to dodge his sale tactics like Neo dodged bullets in the Matrix. Needles to say he didn’t know if there were any archery clubs near my town…nobody knew.

After that I started to think: “There’s no way that on the whole internet there’s not a single program/course that could teach me in a decent way, how to shoot a bow and an arrow?!?”

Then after days of searching through the internet, I came across this killer archery course. Jam packed with quality archery lessons, it teaches you how to transform yourself from a newbie archer with no skills at all, into an expert archer in a matter of weeks! No BS!

As I said before a lot information on the internet is garbage. Before you find some quality archery lessons on the web you’ll experience a nervous breakdown when you realize how much time you’ve wasted searching for the solution. That’s why I did the annoying stuff so you don’t have to. I found the RIGHT PRODUCT and it was PERFECT for me.

I know it will help you too!

Best of luck.

A lot of people want to join an archery club to take some archery lessons. If you happen to live in a large metropolitan area you probably won’t have a problem finding a local archery club.

If you happen to live in a small city, you may have trouble finding one since not that many people are interested in this sport.

While browsing through the internet, I saw that a lot of folks have difficulties finding a local archery club. That’s why I decided to help out, by showing you three ways of finding a local archery club.

First of all, you should go visit your local archery or a general sports store (they should sell bows) and ask the employee who works there if there are any archery clubs located near your town. Usually people that work in specialized archery stores will know if there’s an archery club in the vicinity.

Secondly try visiting USArchery website. Go over to the membership tab so that a drop-down menu automatically opens up. Click on the Current Club List.

After the new page opens up, on the right side you should see an icon for the PDF file with the link that says Current USA Archery Clubs.

Click this link and a PDF file will open containing all the member archery clubs in every (I think) US state and their contact information. If you see that the only archery club in your state is miles away from your home, it’s a good idea to contact the club and ask them if they happen to know about an archery club near your location.

The third option is looking through the yellow pages if there are any archery clubs near your home. Pretty straight forward.

I hope you find this information useful.

PS: Here is the link that takes you directly to the PDF document at USArchery.org with all the archery clubs.

-

As you sit there reading this, I know that you’re looking for some archery lessons that will shed some light on the different types of arrows. Well there sure are a couple of different types of arrows out there and truth be told there is no such thing as an “ultimate” arrow.

When I just started out with archery I made this mistake of buying arrows that weren’t right for my skill level. I bought a couple of fiberglass arrows that were soon to suffer a tragic death. What I didn’t know was that I had to go with wooden arrows because they were cheaper than fiberglass arrows. Time went by and I managed to break all of my arrows…go figure. Fiberglass arrows can be really brittle if placed in the hands of newbs. It took me almost a hour long talk with my friend Rick to realize that the price of an arrow won’t make you shoot more accurate.

Rick explained to me that for beginners the best arrow to use is a wooden arrow. So I listened to his advice and went on buying a bunch of wooden arrows, that would serve me for my training purposes. Although they were cheap (cheaper than the rest of the arrows), they provide the least amount of consistency brought about by the inconsistent nature of the wood. I found this to be a really frustrating thing after my archery skills got better.

After I broke a decent amount of arrows and in the process improved my aim, I was hungry for arrows that offered more consistency. I asked my friend Rick if I could try his carbon arrows. It took me some time to adjust to the new arrows but I was blown away by the performance that the carbon arrows offered. Rick explained me that carbon arrows are made out of an aluminum core and a carbon coat which makes them go faster compared to the all-aluminum arrows and at the same time they’re a lot more tougher. Clearly, buying carbon arrows isn’t a good idea if you’re just starting out with archery.

After testing out the carbon arrows with my friend Rick, I decided to head out to the local archery store to get myself some carbon fibers. I definitely needed arrows that were more consistent. Upon arriving at the store I was mesmerized by the sheer huge variety of carbon arrows they had. It was possible to get carbon arrows with different diameters, different types of fletches, arrowheads, etc.

The employee working there got me interested with aluminum arrows. She told me that aluminum arrows are manufactured with much more consistency and reliability than fiberglass and wood arrows. They can also be customized, to suit the needs of an individual archer and are less expensive compared to the carbon arrows. You could see that she was a passionate archer by the way she was helping me choose the best arrows for my skill level (and my budget).

I left the archery store with 8 new aluminum arrows that were just perfect for my skill level and also shooting style. Specialized archery stores sure are an outstanding place to get some free archery lessons. When I got back home I tried the arrows and was really happy that I bought the aluminum ones. Excellent consistency for a lower price.

The ability to inflict damage upon targets meters away was the main reason why the bow was a staple in every mayor civilization’s army. As the time went by bows got replaced by gunpowder weapons since their range and power were far more superior. From that point on in history bows were mainly used for hunting and at a later date for competition purposes. In recent years, due to a rising demand for recreational and competitive archery we’ve seen the introduction of different types of bows that are suitable for every skill level and are of archery. Mainly there are three main types of bows: longbow, recurve bow and the compound bow.

Longbow

The longbow has been around for ages and was popular for sport and as a weapon of war during the middle ages, especially during the hundred years’ war. The longbow is made out of a single piece of wood lacking any accessories which makes them really difficult to master compared to the compound and the recurve bow. Longbows are approximately as tall as the archer himself which allows its user a fairly long draw, at least to the jaw. Those that choose to use a longbow will have to settle on a style or form of using a longbow correctly or results will be disappointing. Because longbows do require a fairly high level of skill to shoot accurately, it might be a good idea to take some archery lessons to improve your form and accuracy. During the hundred years’ war you had to train by law at least from the age of seven and you’d shoot at least for two hours every Sunday after church.

Recurve Bow

The recurve bow is probably the most popular bow in existence since most beginners start their archery lessons with this type of bow. The difference between recurve and other bows is that the string touches sections of the limbs of recurve bows when the bow is strung. It’s main parts are the riser, usually made out of wood or plastic and two limbs that are attached to the riser. The name of the bow (recurve) comes from the shape of the limbs, where the bottom part of the limbs curve inside or towards the archer, meanwhile the outer part of the limbs curve away from the archer. Recurve bow, because of it’s design, can store more energy compared to the regular bow.

Compound Bow

First developed in 60’s by Holless Wilbur Allen in Missouri, the compound bow is technologically the most advanced bow of the three types. Main components of this bow include the riser, the limbs and a system of cables and pulleys. The riser is usually made out of aircraft-grade aluminum or magnesium designed to be firm as possible. It also serves as a central mount for the limbs and other accessories like the the magnifying scope, etc. The limbs of the compound bow are made out of composite materials and are much stiffer compared to the limbs of a recurve bow or the longbow. In order to successfully pull the string back enough, a system of cables and pulleys (cams) is set in place at the both extremities of the bow’s limbs. The thing that sets aside this bow from all the other bows is that as the bow is drawn, the draw weight increases to a peak and then “lets off”. The “let off” lets you aim for a longer period of time since the force needed to hold the string is greatly reduced.
